Nutrition considers the biochemical steps in which food is used to create energy and chemical structures that are essential for living. Nutrients from food are ingested, digested, absorbed and circulated through the blood stream to nurture the cells of the body.

Healthy eating does not necessarily focus on weight loss, but contains all nutrients in the adequate proportion to promote good health and nutrition. A healthy diet will include food from the five groups:
- Vegetables and legumes
- Fruits
- Grain (cereal) foods,
- Lean meat and poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, nuts and seeds, legumes/beans
- Milk, yoghurt, cheese
Healthy eating also includes limiting the amount of saturated fat, salt, sugars and alcohol
